Pedestrian Struck While Crossing Woodward in Birmingham

Birmingham, MI- On Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 8 p.m., a pedestrian (63-year-old resident of Royal Oak) was struck by a vehicle while crossing Woodward in the crosswalk at Maple Road.
The pedestrian was walking eastbound in the crosswalk and crossing the southbound lanes of Woodward when a vehicle struck him. The vehicle, driven by a 58-year-old resident of Sterling Heights, was traveling eastbound on Maple and had a green light at the Maple/Woodward intersection. The driver proceeded to make a right turn to southbound Woodward and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital for his injuries.
The Birmingham Police Department is a member of the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team (SOCCIT). SOCCIT was called to the scene to complete an investigation, which is ongoing at this time. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
