Vehicle Pulled from Clinton River After Driver Ignored Construction Barriers

Rochester Hills, MI – INCIDENT: 02:31 hrs. Dec. 11, 2021- City of Rochester Hills – Welfare Check/Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol (OWI) – #21-258349
SUMMARY: Deputies responded to Avon and Dequindre Road on the report of people yelling and a vehicle that was possibly in the river.
Upon arrival, deputies observed taillights near the river’s edge. Two male subjects advised that their vehicle was in the river and did not know where their other friend, the driver of the vehicle, was.
Deputies located the driver, who smelled of intoxicants. Deputies summoned the Rochester Hills Fire Department to the scene. The three subjects refused medical treatment. No injuries were reported.

OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The driver was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending the issuance of charges.
A blood draw was conducted, and chemical analysis results are pending.
A tow truck was summoned to the scene to remove the vehicle. Before it could be removed, the vehicle began to float down the river.
The vehicle became submerged entirely underwater, approximately fifty feet from its original location. The vehicle was removed with the assistance of the Rochester Hills Fire Department.
ARRESTEE INFORMATION: 30-year-old male, resident of Washington Township
UPDATE: Road Commission for Oakland County Posted about the incident, stating “We cannot stress this enough.
Please do not ignore road closed ahead signs and then drive around the barricades. It is dangerous and not safe! All approaches to the Dequindre/Avon Road intersection are closed.
This happened last night and thankfully no one was hurt or killed.”
