Smiles, Songs and Santa Claus Make Hazel Park Tree Lighting Special
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 10, 2021)
Hazel Park, MI – Nov. 23 was not a silent night in Hazel Park as dozens of kids and adults gathered on the lawn of the Viking Ice Arena to sing their hearts out for a very special visitor – Santa Claus.
The Christmastime bearer of good cheer and gifts caught a ride with the fire department, arriving in style with red flashing lights and sirens. The kids screamed and squealed with excitement as the jolly elf made his way through the crowd to the podium, where he thanked them for being good this year.
Students from the high school choir led the singing and it was a group of excited youngsters that gathered around the ceremonial light switch, which made the giant pine glow with holiday lights.
Inside families enjoyed ice skating, snacks and posing for pictures with Santa.
Hazel Park Ice Arena features both NHL and Olympic size rinks and is home to numerous local competitive and recreational programs and tournaments, as well as learn to skate and public skating programs. The arena also holds annual special events featuring AAA teams from Chicago, Cleveland, and Detroit. Learn more at www.hazelpark.org.
