Waterford Mason Middle Schooler Arrested for Social Media Threat
(Waterford Police, Dec. 7, 2021)
Waterford, MI- In the wake of the tragedy that occurred Tuesday at Oxford High School, Waterford Police and many other law enforcement agencies continue to investigate reports of threats directed at schools as well as rumors of such threats.
Threats and rumors have been circulated across different social media platforms as well as in text messages and phone conversations.
The Waterford Police Department has investigated numerous reports of threats and rumors in attempts to determine if they are in fact credible threats.
Today we were made aware of a second social media post that contained a direct threat to Mason Middle School. The post contained a picture of a firearm with the caption, “Bro mason your next I’m coming for you on Tuesday”.
Officers were ultimately lead to an eighth grade male student at Mason Middle School. While speaking with the student and his parents, he admitted to creating and posting the threatening message.
Officers took the juvenile into custody and he was lodged at the Oakland County Children’s Village.
A hearing will be held in front of an Oakland County referee tomorrow at 1:00pm.
Once again, we strongly advise against this type of threatening act. We take these threats seriously and we will continue to investigate each and every one, using all available investigative tactics and resources to arrest those responsible and seek to charge them to the fullest extent possible.
Scott Underwood, Chief of Police
