Practical Ways to Help in Oxford: How to Get the Latest List
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 4, 2021)
Oxford, MI – In the midst of all the news and social media posts, core volunteers in the Oxford and Lake Orion communities have gotten together to create a safe place for volunteers to gather and a Google list that is curated with the most current, verified opportunities for people to help.
Kimberly Donnelly, owner of Common Denominator Coffee, got the ball rolling with a community meeting on Dec. 1, and has opened up her coffee shop to anyone who wants to gather at 5:30 each evening (besides Sundays) for updates.  There are several opportunities for community members to gather in the Legacy Center where no media are permitted.
From that meeting Matt Pfeiffer, who owns Northern Wholesale Flooring in Lake Orion, has taken the lead in working with businesses on things like food donations, signage to support the community and more.
All efforts are being coordinated through a Google List with a core group of volunteers organizing and verifying information.  On this list are various ways to donate, verified fundraisers and sales of items that benefit the families of the victims, ways to volunteer, community events, resources for support, online petitions, and more.  Anyone is welcome to view the list, but media are asked to respect the privacy of people who may be included on it.    The list is being updated frequently each day thanks to Andrea Nienstedt and her team of volunteers.
