Multiple Shot at Oxford High School, Suspect in Custody UPDATED

Oxford, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Office has released more information on the shooting at Oxford High School, revealing that the shooter was a 15 year old student with a semi-automatic pistol. The student, a sophomore at the school, shot three students who died on the scene, another who died Tuesday night at the hospital, as well as four students and a teacher who suffered injuries.
UPDATE: The victims who have lost their lives have been identified as Tate Myre, a 16-year-old student, Hana St. Juliana, a 14-year-old student, and Madisyn Baldwin, a 17-year-old student. On Dec. 1 another student succumbed to their injuries. Justin Shilling, 17, is now listed as the fourth fatality in the shooting.
UPDATE: 15-year old Ethan Crumbley has been charged with multiple felonies including murder and terrorism.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active shooter at Oxford High School in Oxford Township at 12:55PM today. Undersheriff Mike McCabe told reporters that the suspect was in custody within five minutes of the first shots. He did not resist arrest, and has not made any statements in regard to a motive. The department received over 100 911 calls to report the shooting. He fired over 15 rounds within that 5 minutes. A deputy working in the building as a school resource officer assisted in the suspect’s apprehension.
Students were evacuated in an orderly manner to the Meijer store located near the school. The store is closed and is providing space for kids and families. Neighboring communities sent police and fire to help with the evacuation, traffic control, and investigation. The FBI is assisting as well.
State Representative John Reilly said in a statement “My heart goes out to students, staff and their families after the despicable shooting at Oxford High School. I am praying for a quick recovery for those who have been wounded, and comfort for families and friends grieving lost loved ones. A tragedy like this shocks us all, and we need to support the people who endured this horrific trauma. Our community is unified in the face of this heinous act of violence, and we are especially grateful to our law enforcement officers and first responders for their efforts.”
Governor Gretchen Whitmer said in a statement “My heart breaks for the students, teachers, staff, and families of Oxford High School. The death of multiple students and the shooting of many others, including a teacher, is horrific. I want to thank the first responders on the ground working hard to keep people safe as law enforcement officials investigate this shooting and get the community the help it needs right now.
“As Michiganders, we have a responsibility to do everything we can to protect each other from gun violence. No one should be afraid to go to school, work, a house of worship, or even their own home. Gun violence is a public health crisis that claims lives every day. We have the tools to reduce gun violence in Michigan. This is a time for us to come together and help our children feel safe at school.
“My heart is with the parents who had their children taken from them today and with the entire community in Oxford.”
