Troy Man Charged with Murdering Mother in Car on Thanksgiving
(OCSO, Nov. 29, 2021)
Royal Oak, Pleasant Ridge, MI – A Troy man who fatally wounded his mother with a  single shot to the head while she drove them home from a Thanksgiving family dinner near the Pleasant Ridge-Royal Oak border was charged by prosecutors today with open murder.
George Michael Harry II, 22, is being held without bond in the Oakland County Jail in the death  of his mother, Sonya Harry, 52, of Southfield on Nov. 24. He is expected to be arraigned by  video Tuesday on the murder charge, five counts of attempted murder and six counts of using a  firearm during the commission of a felony before 44th District Court Magistrate Donald Chisholm  in Royal Oak. Chisholm signed the warrants today.
The shooting happened not long after George Harry and his mother left a family Thanksgiving  gathering in Detroit. As she drove northbound on Woodward Avenue in Pleasant Ridge,  Harry – who was a passenger in the rear seat of the Ford Edge – fired a single shot from point  blank range from a 9 mm handgun to his mother’s head.  After the vehicle crashed, it came to rest in the middle of Woodward Avenue under the  Interstate 696 interchange. George Harry got out and fired shots randomly at three other  passing vehicles, including one in which an infant was riding. The car was struck but no one in  the infant’s vehicle was hit. A Ferndale woman, 43, was driving another car and suffered a  gunshot wound to the leg. She has since been released from the hospital.  A motive for the shooting was not immediately known.
