Dec. 2- Ferndale Library Presents Kathy Kosins
Ferndale, MI – The Ferndale Library will host an opening reception on Thu., Dec 2, for a new art exhibition featuring works by abstract painter and international jazz and soul artist and composer Kathy Kosins. The event will include an exclusive live performance by Kosins, accompanied by Ian Finkelstein. Kosins is a composer of both music and art–appreciating both mediums as one and the same. Her paintings, which evocatively conjure the ebullience and unbridled creative expression of jazz through a dynamic melding of vibrant colors with streaks and shapes, will be installed inside the Ferndale Library’s vestibule and events space at the end of November.
Kosins grew up in Detroit and started out in music at an early age, singing lead in a rhythm and blues band and touring the country. This propelled her into an award-winning career as a composer and performer of jazz and soul music. Kosins brings the vitality of those musical styles into her painting, which she started in earnest about a decade ago. “I hear color and see sound,” said Kosins, “and translate them both onto the canvas.” Kosins has exhibited art and performed music inside esteemed galleries and venues across the region. The Ferndale Library Art & Exhibition Committee is thrilled to have her bringing new works to showcase in December. Her works will be priced to sell at the exhibition, and refreshments will be served before and after Kosins’ musical performance.
The opening reception for Kathy Kosins’ exhibition will begin at 6 pm on Thursday, December 2. Attendees will have a chance to meet the artist, view her works, and be treated to a live musical performance by Kosins, beginning at 6:30 pm. Kosins will be accompanied by musician/composer Ian Finkelstein, a classically trained pianist who has been performing jazz for most of his life. The reception will end at 8 pm that evening, but works will stay on display until December 12.
The Ferndale Library regularly transforms into an informal art gallery of sorts when it hosts exhibitions featuring multimedia pieces by local artists. Art connoisseurs can meet Kosins in person at the reception, but more info can be found online at http://kathykosins.com.
