Explore: Sunrise Walk at Kensington Metropark
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Nov. 5, 2021)
Milford, MI – Kensignton Metropark is a beautiful place to hike no matter the time of the year.
One very early morning at the end of October, I hiked all seven miles of trails in the nature center area of the park. The entire park has has 4,481 acres of land surrounding Kent Lake. There are many natural areas as well as activities that include baseball, bicycling, boating, canoeing, kayaking, cross-country skiing, farm center, golf, horseback riding, mountain biking, nature center, playgrounds, ski center, snowboarding, water slides, beach, boat rental, camping, concessions, disc golf, fishing, hiking, marina, picnic areas, repair stations, sledding, and a splash pad.
My focus for the day was on the trials. There were so many deer, as well as a variety of birds including turkey, cranes, hawks, ducks, and more. Also plentiful on autumn hikes are colorful varieties of fungus and mushrooms.
Kensington Metropark is located at 4570 Huron River Parkway in Milford Charter Township. Learn more at https://metroparks.com/kensington-metropark/.
