Reporter Food: The Holly Cafe
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 3, 2021)
Holly, MI – The Holly Cafe has a thoughtful menu of high quality sandwiches, soups, and salads made with fresh, local ingredients in a bright, welcoming setting in Downtown Holly. They’re also one of our advertising sponsors, and we love being supported by a community-minded business! Especially one that is truly delicious.
I wrote about Holly Cafe at the beginning of the year showcasing their new line of easy carryout meals and their Cuban Sandwich. But I couldn’t resist sharing what is one of my favorite healthy meals – Beet and Goat Cheese Salad.
This creation has a spring mix of lettuces, earthy sweet beets, goat cheese, pistachios, and a perfectly balanced housemade orange balsamic vinaigrette dressing. This amazing salad packs in healthy nutrients while dazzling tastebuds.
Other salad options include the Chicken Salad Salad, made with chicken, red and yellow bell peppers, red onion, spring mix, honey mayo dressing and diced tomatoes and cucumber on the side, and the Michigan Salad with mixed greens, goat cheese, red onion, candied walnuts, and slices of apple with a house dressing.
Holly Cafe is also known for their sandwiches. And I’ve had a few good ones there. Among them are the Chicken Bacon Avocado, which is probably self-explanatory. As is my second choice, the BLT. Holly Cafe uses nice thick bacon cooked crispy and good, on locally-baked fresh bread.
Other sandwich choices include the Cafe Club, the Darn Good Grilled Cheese, and the Cranberry Turkey. There are also amazing soup choices that vary, as well as organic grab and go Aratham meals, a selection of Drought pressed juices, Michigan made beer and wine, Michigan made products, and fresh baked bread and sweets – lots to love.
The Holly Cafe is located at 204 S. Saginaw Street in Downtown Holly. Carryout is easy, with online ordering and counter service, plus there are places to sit both inside and out. Check them out online at www.TheHollyCafe.com, and while you’re there be sure to check out the beautiful mural in the outside seating area!
Crystal Proxmire is on a quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County. This quest is sponsored by White Castle, in honor of her father who made holidays special with sliders. White Castle is a family-owned business. With steam-grilled sliders, crispy golden fries, fantastic slides like onion chips or mac and cheese nibblers, and the best chocolate shakes, White Castle is a by far our top choice for a fast-food meal. Check out their website at www.WhiteCastle.com.
