Reporter Food: Mi Zarape Restaurante Mexicano in Lake Orion
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Sept 3, 2021)
Lake Orion, MI – A lovely authentic Mexican meal was recently enjoyed from Mi Zarape Restaurante Mexicano at 780 S. Lapeer Road in Lake Orion.
Having ordered carryout, my friend had the chicken chimichangas – flour tortillas with chicken, deep fried and topped with lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole served with beans. Plus they had crispy tortilla chips and housemade salsa to go along with it.
I liked the steak quesadillas, and the accompanying rice. Everything was low-priced and well-prepared.
Other menu items include tamales, chalupas, tacos, tostadas and much more, all at family-friendly pricing. There’s even a children’s menu section with a variety of meals for kids 10 and younger including chicken nuggets and fries, steak soft taco and rice, and corn dog and fries.
Also deserving of attention are the Burrito Loco, which is a burrito cooked with squash, zucchini, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers and tomatoes, and the Pineapple Fajita made with grilled chicken, steak, and shrimp mixed with chirizo, bell peppers, onions and pineapple topped with asadero cheese.
The restaurant itself was full of brightly painted booths and Mexican-inspired artwork, and I would recommend dining in the festive atmosphere. There’s even a bar for those that like beer with their burritos.
