Reporter Food:  Irish Tavern in Madison Heights and Waterford
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Aug. 31, 2021)
Madison Heights, Waterford, MI – With locations in Madison Heights and Waterford, Irish Tavern – recognizable by their “IT” logo and festive Irish colors, serves up a nice selection of meals for lunch and dinner.
I was in a fish and chips mood, so I decided to give theirs a try. This feast had over 1/2 lb of hand-dipped Alaskan cod with a buttery beer batter fried to a greasy, crispy perfection. It came with seasoned french fries, coleslaw and tarter sauce.
I was extra impressed with their bread pudding.  It was the perfect texture and richness, with a sauce that was not just sweet, but had a thoughtful bourbon brown sugar sauce that went perfectly with the buttery bread. Really good.
For other entree options try the Irish Fried Chicken, chicken and bread pudding, and the shepherd’s pie.
IT offers a selection of burgers, as well as boxtys. Boxtys are traditional Irish pancakes filled and folded up like a wrap. Among the choices for those are the corned beef boxy, the vegetable boxty and more.
There are interesting appetizers as well including steamed mussels, Dublin green beans, deep fried pickle spears, and jackfruit cowboy quesadilla.
Irish Tavern is located at 4703 Elizabeth Lake Road in Waterford and 29028 N. Campbell Road in Madison Heights (at 12 Mile). Check out their full menu at www.itmadisonheights.com.
