Person in Wrong Office Reportedly Assaults Holly Village Employee

Holly, MI – On July 13, 2021 at 12:00 pm, a male subject walked into the Holly Village municipal offices located at  300 East St. to inquire about a letter he received concerning an Ordinance violation. The 39-year-old male resident of Holly Township showed the letter to Village office staff, who advised him the letter was mailed  from Holly Township offices, that he resides in Holly Township and would have to speak with Township  officials, not Village officials. The man became verbally abusive and aggressive with staff.
The Village Code Enforcement Officer tried to explain that he simply needs to go to the Township offices  for a clarification, as this was a Township issued letter. The man became loud and argumentative. The  Code Official tried to de-escalate the matter reassuring the man he was simply at the wrong location.

Instead of leaving the man forced his way into the secure area of the Village offices and lunged at the Code  Enforcement Officer, knocking him to the ground. The Code Officer was able to gain control of the man,  being assisted by Village Manager Jerry Walker. Holly officers were tied up on other serious calls and  requested assistance from the Michigan State Police and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and  a Trooper arrived and secured the man in a patrol vehicle until a Holly PD officer was able to clear and  respond.
The Holly Township man was taken into custody by Holly PD and charged with Disorderly Conduct and  Assault & Battery. He has previous convictions for assaultive behavior and fraud.  The Code Enforcement  officer sustained minor injuries from the assault, but was able to continue his duties. Alcohol did not appear  to be a factor. The case was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for charges.
