Reporter Food: CAYA Smokehouse Grill
(Crystal A. Proxmire, July 4, 2021)
Wolverine Lake, MI – CAYA Smokehouse Grill has a “Come As You Are” philosophy, with a traditional bar atmosphere with stepped-up food options.  Located at 1403 S Commerce Rd in Wolverine Lake, this is a great place for bbq, booze, and desserts.
I’m actually going to start with that, because I do tend to eat desert first anyhow.  CAYA has the most ridiculously decadent banana split.  Here’s how they do it: “Brûléed banana, candied pecans, vanilla and chocolate ice cream, raspberry coulis, caramel, whipped cream.”  I don’t know if any other banana split will ever be as delicious.
The other sweet thing I just had to try was the watermelon salad.  This was made with blueberry-balsamic reduction, cardamom mango vinaigrette, mint, feta cheese, and blueberries.  While the banana split was just a ride of gluttonous sweets, the watermelon salad is a sophisticated experience of flavors, with cooling mint, creamy feta, and earthy fresh fruits that make this salad a perfect summer meal or snack.
I also had to try the BBQ of course.  The Beef Brisket Sandwich has “smoked beef brisket, spicy bbq sauce, cheddar cheese, pickles, and an onion ring.”  It also had a side of simply made mac and cheese.
Other CAYA Smokehouse Grill items include the Alabama Yardbird Sandwich, Pork Belly Tomahawk, Smoked Chicken, and even Smoked Spaghetti Squash. Check out their menu online for all the choices.
