Reporter Food: Johnny Black’s Public House
(Crystal A. Proxmire, June 3, 2021)
Waterford, MI – Johnny Black’s Public House has locations in Sterling Heights, Rochester Hills, Waterford, and Lake Orion. For my visit I opted for the Waterford location at 5171 Dixie Highway.
This lively place has seating inside and out, as well as a carryout option. The bourbon n brussels was amazing. This was a beautiful mess of crispy brussels, house bourbon sauce, bacon crushed hazelnuts, and bleu cheese crumbles. It was heavenly. There was a lot of sauce, so the next day I mixed the leftovers with some basamati rice and created what is probably one of my top five favorite meals ever. So, I’ll definitely be back for more of that.
The fish and chips was also fantastic. Nice crispy beer-batter on hearty pieces of cod, served with fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce and lemon. Mmmm…
The menu is full of interesting dishes, including the baja blackened fish bowl, the “we be clubbin” sandwich, public house ribs, whiskey shrimp, and roasted pork sliders.
The “Little Johnny’s” kids menu covers the basics also, with chicken strips, grilled cheese, burger, mac and cheese, butter noodles and cheese quesadillas.
And there are deserts! I had the bourbon chocolate cake. There’s also fried Oreos and Fruity Pebble cheesecake.
