Reporter Food: Ima in Madison Heights
(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 24, 2021)
Madison Heights, MI – Ima is a place of delicious Japanese-inspired meals with locations in Madison Heights and Detroit.
For a recent carryout order I indulged in the Beef Pho with a fried egg added on, as well as an appetizer of fried tofu.
The pho was a masterpiece of rice noodles, ginger bbq beef, bean sprout, Thai basil, white onion, jalapeno, lime, and schmaltz in a delicious pho broth. There was a ton of food packed into the bowl, for a filling meal plus leftovers. And the tofu was melt in your mouth delicious with the crispy golden outside and soft savory middle. The pickle slices and lemon added just a little tang to those tasty bites, and it was great.
The menu at Ima is vast in it’s creativity. Some other enticing options include the Sake Steamed Clams, Spicy Tori Ramen, Curry Yaki Udon, and the Crispy Tofu Sandwich. There are plenty of noodle dishes like udon and ramen, with rice bowls available as well.
Located at 32203 John R in Madison Heights, there is a nice big area for seating, with outdoor seating as well, and the option for carryout.
Check out their Madison Heights’ location’s menu at https://imanoodles.com/madison-heights. The website also talks about Chef Michael Ransom’s history and vision. Ransom attended Kendall College in Chicago where he earned a culinary arts degree. He went to San Francisco and Baltimore to learn at top restaurants before returning to Corktown where he grew up to start his own Japanese inspired eatery there.
