Reporter Food: Detroit Cookie Co. in Ferndale
(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 9, 2021)
Ferndale, MI – Since 2017 Detroit Cookie Co. owner Lauren Roumayah has been making a variety of tasty treats for customers in Ferndale, and she’s added a second location in Ann Arbor earlier this year.  “My favorite part about baking has always been the love and happiness I see when people bite into one of my fresh baked cookies,” says the Detroit Cookie Co. website.  “It is without a doubt, that my passion and love is baked inside of every Detroit Cookie Co. cookie and that is why they are so dang delicious!”
I’ve made a couple trips to this sweet Ferndale spot recently, as fresh baked cookies in a variety of fun flavors make a great gift.  I also indulged myself, first with a chocolate s’mores cookie, then with a browned butter pecan that had the most indulgent buttery flavor ever.  The banana pudding cookie is also a treat, with an extra soft bite that feels like it melts on one’s tongue.
Flavors change frequently, but some regulars in the rotation include peanut butter volcano, B’s special made with cinna-bun flavored cookie swirled with Oreos, and the Big 3 made with Better Made Potato Chips, Michigan dried cherries, and chocolate chips.
Besides cookies there are cereal treats, brownies, cinnamon rolls, and Country Dairy ice cream.  Adding to the fun is a bright atmosphere, a walk-up window, and a whimsical tree mural on the side of the building.  Plus there is a place for  visitors to take a selfie with cookie-themed angel wings and halo painted on the facade.
Detroit Cookie Co. is located at 23421 Woodward Ave in Ferndale.  Learn more about their delicious selections at www.detroitcookieco.com.  And while you’re in the area, consider a visit to White Castle on Woodward just north of 8 Mile for some tasty sliders.
