Backyard Art Fair is Back, w/Artists in Ferndale, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge and HP
Ferndale, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge, Hazel Park, MI – Back in 2020 the creatives of the world were left reeling, trying to learn in real time how to navigate their opportunities during the pandemic. A few Oakland County locals with zero in-person shows in sight and a passion for their creative community decided to discuss the idea of a safe outdoor scavenger hunt style event where the shoppers literally come to them. The first Backyard Art Fair in August 2020 was a huge success, with upwards of 1,000 shoppers over the course of the day visiting 25 different locations. The feedback was incredible from the participants and the public, and at the top of the new year organizers Kelly Kaatz, Carey Gustafson and Yvonne Spampinato got to work on a 2021 return.
Backyard Art Fair: May 22nd from 11am-6pm 65+ creatives will be selling their work at over 30 of their (or their hosts) outdoor studios in the connecting cities of Hazel Park, Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge and Oak Park.
The organizers are providing an online and physical map, plus wayfinding yard signs for shoppers to walk, bike or drive to visit as many destinations as possible for this one day event!
Visitors will find a wide array of handcrafted summer art show goods not limited to: Stained and blown Glass, Ceramics, Jewelry, fiber art, illustrations and print work, fine art paintings, kitsch and upcycled crafts. Making a purchase or more during BAF is directly supporting the arts in your community and in many cases, a sneak peek of their studios and methods.
Rain (storm only) date is Sunday, May 23rd, 11-6pm
BAF is a grassroots effort to continue the support of local artists during the ongoing pandemic. All updated safety measures will be in place with the sellers and is expected and asked of the visitors.
