May 8 – Holly Fire Department Cadet Program Info Meeting

Holly, MI – The Village of Holly Fire Department is hosting a Cadet Program for ages 14-18 who want to learn about fire behavior, communications, ropes and knots, automatic sprinkles, salvage and overhaul, fire, hose, first aid, fire inspection, vehicle extraction and more.

Fire Chief Steve McGee says he really believes in the program.  “I was Groveland’s first Cadet in 1974 and several of our personnel participated in similar programs.  Many students have no desire to go on to college and this is an excellent opportunity to learn a trade and help people through difficult times, all at once,” he said.

He hosted a similar program in Groveland Township when he was chief there, and is happy to bring it to the Village of Holly.

“It’s an amazing program and a great opportunity to learn a life-long trade.  The skills and people we’ve trained have gone on to do amazing things, and we like being part of that very important process!”

There will be weekly trainings and meetings, and the students are allowed (after some training) to ride on the apparatus and assist in non-hazardous conditions.  Up to 20 youth will be accepted, though they hope to grow the program in the future.  Participants do not need to be Village residents.

Those who want to learn more are invited to attend an informational meeting May 8th at 1:00 PM.  For more visit the Village of Holly Fire Dept. website.
