Reporter Food: Mabel Gray in Hazel Park

Hazel Park, MI – I finally got to try Hazel Park’s beloved culinary gem – Mabel Gray.  This often publicized gourmet restaurant features quality ingredients and creative dishes that change frequently to suit the chef’s moods and availability of ingredients.
So, be warned, if you are tempted by any these items I’m writing about, they’re probably not on the menu now. But something else delicious will be!
For my carryout order I got Duck Leg Abruzzese which was swimming in an oil-based sauce with rich Italian spices.  The moist duck meat was perfectly cooked with just a little crispness to the outside.
I also ordered the Almond Fried Idyll Farms Goat Cheese, garnished with orange marmalade, olives, greens, mustard seeds, and a slice of orange.
And I finished with a Dark Chocolate Budino desert, which came topped with buttery salty popcorn, toffee bits, whipped cream, and a slice of caramelized banana.  Obviously this was fantastic.
As I mentioned, the menu always changes. But the day this story is going up they’ve got a lineup of items on the menu that include Crispy Skin Sea Bream, Chips and Caviar, Lamb Double Cheeseburger, and Charcoal Grilled Asparagus.
They’ve also go wine and mixed drinks, including the Hazel Park and Parcel with a choice of gin or vodka, Aperol, Camari, Lime and Grapefruit.
