Bob Ross Cutouts Spread Joy, and Selfies, Through Ferndale
(Crystal A. Proxmire, March 17, 2021)
Ferndale, MI- Ferndalians are starting to spot a familiar face along their neighborhood strolls – that of famed “happy tree”-painting artist Bob Ross.
Though Bob Ross passed away in 1995, his memory lives on through re-runs of his instructional painting program, online videos, memes, and poofy-haired imitators.  And now, in Ferndale, his face is part of a community game, with folks encouraged to take pictures and selfies and tag #bobinferndale in their posts.
Oakland County Times spoke to the creator, who wishes to be anonymous.
“The idea about doing Bob Ross was trying to give people of Ferndale some joy after a crazy year through a safe, fun scavenger hunt around the city,” the creator said.
“Bob Ross was known for his soothing voice and art through the appreciation of landscapes around us. I am placing Bob Ross heads around Ferndale for residents to take in the beauty and joy in our own community.”
A total of 14 heads will be placed around Ferndale through the week.  Early sightings include the covered bus stop on West Nine Mile at Woodward, and the Wilson Dog Park.  Each Bob Ross face is numbered and those taking pictures are asked to tag #bobinferndale “to create a fun album of photos showcasing the wonderful community we live in.”
“I’m just trying to bring some joy to everyone’s spring, one happy little Bob Ross head at a time,” the mystery creator said.
