Reporter Food: Anita’s Kitchen
(Crystal A. Proxmire, March 7, 2021)
Ferndale, Lake Orion, MI – Anita’s Kitchen has been a Ferndale staple since 2008, that has also added a second location in Downtown Lake Orion. Plus they have a carryout location in Detroit that is temporarily closed due to the pandemic.
I recently had dinner with a friend at the Downtown Ferndale location, taking advantage of the sunny day and the restaurant’s patio, kept nice and warm by a heating system overhead.
We started with a fleet of hummus choices that included traditional, roasted red pepper, and jalapeno served with soft warm pita bread. And we got an order of Joe’s Wings that were made with a tangy sauce and served with feta dressing.
For the main course I had the fantastic Anita’s Chopped Salad made with grilled chicken breast, romaine, tomato, hard boiled egg, bacon, feta cheese and creamy feta dressing.
My dining companion had the beef shawarma bowl with rice, hummus, tabbouleh, garlic sauce, pickles, and onions. They also had the black bean soup. For beverages they indulged in a cup of hot chai tea, while I enjoyed one of Anita’s fresh fruit smoothies – a Wango Tango of strawberry, mango, raspberry, and banana.
Anita’s Kitchen has a nice selection of items including stuffed grape leaves, fried cauliflower, kebob, gyro, falafel, and their famous spinach pie.
Check out their locations at 22651 Woodward Ave in Ferndale and 45 W Flint St in Lake Orion. Order online at https://anitaskitchen.com.
