Missouri Man Charged in Stabbing Death of Man in Troy
(Troy Police, Feb. 19, 2021)
Jerome Perry-Bey of St. Louis, Missouri (41 years old) has been charged with open murder in relation to a February 15 homicide that occurred in the parking lot of Belle Tire (4966 Rochester Rd). Perry-Bey was arraigned this morning at 52-4 District Court and bond was denied.
On Monday, February 15th at approximately 7:00 am, officers responded to Belle Tire on an unresponsive male subject laying next to the building. Employees arriving for work found the male subject laying next to the front entrance of the building. Officers and an ambulance arrived and determined the victim, 38-year old Carlos Contreras (from Flint, MI) was deceased.
Contreras was found lying outside, with a single stab wound to his chest area. Troy Police Investigators and Evidence Technicians immediately initiated an investigation at the scene. Among items found in the snow-covered parking lot was an open folding knife with blood noticeable on the blade.
The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy later that morning and ruled the death a homicide.
Troy Police Investigators traveled to Flint, MI to contact the victim’s family. With the assistance of the City of Flint Police Department, investigators were able to quickly identify Perry-Bey as a possible suspect in this case. Perry-Bey was staying in the Flint area for the last several weeks and had a connection with the victim. It was also learned that Perry-Bey had a pending felony weapons charge in the St. Louis area and may have fled to Flint to avoid arrest. Troy Police Investigators were able to locate Perry-Bey and conduct an interview in the City of Flint. A short time into the interview Perry-Bey confessed to stabbing Contreras during a physical fight in the Belle Tire parking lot.
On Sunday, February 14th, during the early evening Perry-Bay and Contreras were traveling from the Pontiac area to Detroit, MI, passing through Troy on Rochester Rd. Perry-Bey stated that the two were in an argument and pulled over in the Belle Tire parking lot where a struggle occurred outside of the vehicle. During that struggle Perry-Bey pulled a knife from his jacket pocket and stabbed Contreras, who was unarmed, in the upper chest. Contreras was left behind as Perry-Bey fled the scene with the vehicle.
The Troy police Department want to extend our sincere thanks to the City of Flint Police Department for their assistance in this case. We would also like to recognize our officers who worked quickly, in adverse weather conditions, and with limited initial information to make an arrest within hours of the initial call for service.
