Reporter Food: Earl’s Diner in Ferndale
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Feb. 17, 2021)
Ferndale, MI – Next time you’re at Earl’s Diner and you’re at the register to pay, look up and you’ll see a lovely poster of the last Reporter Food column I did about them, shortly after they opened in 2018.
They still have Greek Salads and generous servings of fish and chips. But for this visit I was in the mood for something even more amazing – the Virginia Baked Ham Dinner. Oh my goodness was this good! This nice thick cut sliced ham was served with pineapple rings on top and some perfectly comforting mashed potatoes with gravy, and a helping of mixed veggies that went well when swirled into the creamy spuds. The dinner comes with the choice of soup or salad, and I opted for the vegetable soup.
Other “favorites” on the menu include breaded veal cutlets, baked meatloaf dinner, chicken strips, roast sirloin of beef, roast turkey dinner and more.
Earl’s serves breakfast anytime with all they typical choices, plus some fun ones like the Beverly Hillbilly featuring two poached eggs, southern fried chicken , topped with sausage gravy on a buttermilk biscuit topped with hot sauce and shredded cheese.
And speaking of cheesy, the cheese omelette boasts a full 6 oz of cheese within an omelette with three eggs, plus it comes with potatoes, toast, and jelly.
Check out the menu full of items at www.earlsdinerferndale.com, and visit at 1861 E 9 Mile Rd in Ferndale.
