Man Arrested for Robberies in Holly, Madison Heights, Troy, Orion and More

Oakland County, MI – The FBI Oakland County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force assisted in investigating several armed robberies which occurred in Oakland and Genesee Counties, between January 19th, 2021, and January 31st, 2021.
On January 19, 2021, at approximately 7:39 PM, Deputies were dispatched to Walgreens Pharmacy at 3520 South Baldwin Road in Orion Township for the report of an armed robbery. A black male wearing a black hoodie with a white emblem on the front, black pants, black shoes, and a light blue surgical type mask entered the store.
The subject demanded the clerk to open the register. He presented his right arm with what appeared to be a handgun. The subject stated several times he would shoot to the clerk. He grabbed the money from the drawer and left the location.
On January 20, 2021, at approximately 2:02 PM, the Lake Orion Police Department was dispatched to Walgreens Pharmacy at 450 North Park Street in the Village of Lake Orion for a report of an armed robbery. The subject was a black male wearing a black hoodie with a white logo on the front, dark colored pants, dark colored shoes, and a blue mask. The subject’s clothing was identical to the clothing worn in robbery of the Walgreens in Orion Township the day prior.
On January 22, 2021, at approximately 1:50 PM, the Madison Heights Police Department was dispatched to CVS Pharmacy at 31010 John R Road in the City of Madison Heights for the report of an armed robbery. A black male subject wearing a green jacket, blue mask, black pants, and white gloves entered the store. The subject demanded money from a clerk and manager stating several times “Don’t make me shoot you.” The subject pointed to his pocket and implied he had a gun many times. The subject left the store with the drawer of money and was observed by a store employee getting into a dirty black Chevrolet sedan which she believed to be a Malibu.
On January 22, 2021, at approximately 2:32PM, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Walgreens at 2985 Crooks Road in the City of Rochester Hills for the report of an armed robbery. At approximately 2:29 PM, a black male subject wearing a green camouflage patterned jacket, blue mask, black pants, and one white glove entered the store. The subject approached the counter and told the clerk “This is a robbery and as long as you follow protocol everything would be alright.” The subject left with the money from the register. Detectives recovered surveillance footage of a dirty dark colored Chevrolet Malibu.
On January 23, 2021, at approximately 5:50 PM, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Walgreens at 7110 Dixie Highway in Independence Township for an attempt robbery earlier in the day. At approximately 3:56 PM, a subject entered the store wearing a black hoodie with a white emblem on the front, dark pants, dark shoes, and a light blue colored surgical mask. The clothing description was the same as the other Walgreens robberies which occurred in Orion Township and the Village of Lake Orion on January 19thand 20th. The suspect approached the cashier and demanded her to give him all the money. The suspect implied he would shoot the clerk, if she did not comply. He had his hand covered and pointed his arm at the victim in a threatening manner.
On January 23, 2021, at approximately 4:57 PM, the Village of Holly Police Department was dispatched to CVS Pharmacyat4031 Grange Hall Rd in the Village of Holly, for an armed robbery involving a black male subject. The subject was wearing a black hoodie with a white emblem on the front, dark pants, dark shoes, a light blue surgical mask, and white gloves. The description matched several prior Walgreens robberies including Orion Township, the Village of Lake Orion, and Independence Township. The subject fled the store and was witnessed leaving in a dirty, black mid-2000sChevroletMalibu.
On January 23, 2021, at approximately 8:21 PM, the Fenton Police Department was dispatched to Walgreensat3270 West Silver Lake Road in the City of Fenton for an attempted armed robbery which had just occurred involving a black male subject. The subject was wearing a red jacket with a black shirt, blue hooded sweatshirt, black winter hat, black saggy jeans, black face mask with a design on the mouth, and white gloves. The jacket had a white design on the right rear shoulder. The subject fled the store and in a dark colored sedan.
On January 31, 2021, at approximately 3:28 PM, the Troy Police Department was dispatched to CVS at 1980 East Big Beaver in the City of Troy for an armed robbery involving a black male subject. The subject was wearing a dark colored jacket or hooded sweatshirt with a white emblem on the front, dark colored or black pants with rips in the front, gray striped boxer shorts, a disposable face mask, and dark colored or black shoes. The subject was seen on surveillance footage leaving in a dark colored sedan with silver rims, silver door handles, and silver window trim.
On January 31, 2021, at approximately 4:16 PM, the Auburn Hills Police Department was dispatched to Rite Aid at 2480 Lapeer in the City of Auburn Hills for an attempted armed robbery involving a black male subject. The subject was seen on surveillance footage wearing blue jeans, black shirt, disposable face mask, black coat or hooded sweatshirt with an unknown white emblem on the front, dark colored jeans, dark shoes, and work gloves. The material of the gloves was blue in color.
Through the investigative efforts of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Village of Lake Orion Police Department, Madison Heights Police Department, Village of Holly Police Department, Fenton Police Department, Troy Police Department, Auburn Hills Police Department, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Laboratory and Computer Crimes Units, Michigan Department of Corrections, and the FBI Oakland County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force, the suspect was successfully taken into custody.
The FBI Oakland County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force is made up of agency members from the FBI, ICE/ERO, the Michigan State Police, Madison Heights Police Department, Auburn Hills Police Department, Troy Police Department, Ferndale Police Department, Novi Police Department, Bloomfield Township Police Department, Southfield Police Department, and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Marcel Marquaveon Hinkle was taken into custody by task force team members without incident on February 4th, 2021. Hinkle is a 27-year-old resident of the City of Flint. Previously, Hinkle was convicted of Felony Armed Robbery and Felony Concealed Weapons charges. He was discharged from the Michigan Department of Corrections on November 4, 2020 and was on Parole at the time of his arrest.
“I am extremely proud of the team effort of all the agencies involved to bring this clearly dangerous serial armed robber to justice, “said Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard. “Hopefully, this time, he will stay behind bars and not threaten the public again.”
On February 6, 2021, Hinkle was arraigned in 52-3 District Court by the Honorable Judge Michael Bosnic. At this time, he has been charged with the following:
Walgreens located in Orion Township Count 1: Robbery Armed Count 2: Weapons –Felony Firearm –Second Offense Walgreens located in the Village of Lake Orion Count 3: Robbery Armed Walgreens located in the City of Rochester Hills Count 4: Robbery Armed Rite Aid in the City of Auburn Hills Count 5: Robbery Unarmed Bond was denied for the above charges and an MDOC detainer has been placed on Hinkle. Additional charges are expected later this week on the other armed robberies. His next court date is February 16, 2021, at 9am at 52-3 District Court
