Reporter Food: Cooper’s Hawk Restaurant
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 28, 2021)
Troy, MI – Cooper’s Hawk is a chain of restaurants and wineries that has three locations in Michigan: Clinton Twp, Grand Rapids, and Troy. I recently decided to get carryout in Troy, at 151 E. Big Beaver Road.
The braised short rib grilled cheese with classic tomato soup sounded like a nice idea for a cold day, with the menu touting caramelized onions along with aged white cheddar, America, and fontina cheeses. It was made on thick white bread which I found best to eat by dipping little pieces of the sandwich into the soup. The seasoned French Fries also had the same tasty fate.
I also got a Caesar salad that was impressive with beautiful shavings of Parmesan and tasty croutons. There was also a pretzel roll in the bag. For desert I had something so good that my mouth waters now just thinking of it – the S’More Budinao. This is a little pie made of graham cracker crust, caramel custard, Valrhona chocolate mousse, and a toasted marshmallow topping.
There was definitely a focus on wine at Cooper’s Hawk. That’s not my area of expertise, but there seems to be a beautiful selection on their website for those who want to know more.
Food-wise the menu is full of upscale-priced items like filet Mignon, pan-roasted Barramundi, pistachio-crusted grouper, sweet corn and tomato risotto, herb-roasted chicken Giardiniera and more.
