Reporter Food: Elie’s Mediterranean Grill in Downtown Birmingham
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 22, 2021)
Birmingham, MI – I don’t know that I would call Elie’s Mediterranean Grill upscale, because the prices are surprisingly low given their location in the heart of Downtown Birmingham.  Yet the food and the decor are definitely stepped up and set apart from the competition in terms of this international cuisine.
Due to the pandemic, I got my order to go.  I enjoyed the baked salmon which was perfectly done. It was coated with light herbs and was served with mushroom and asparagus quinoa, caramelized onions, capers and olives. It came served with housemade pita bread, and I ended up mixing all the items to stuff into the triangle-shaped slices. This was such a great meal, with plenty for leftovers.
Along with expected favorites like housemade hummus, fried kibbee, kabobs, kaftas, and shawarmas, there are also alluring items like sauteed dandelions, feta stuffed portabella mushrooms, grilled lamb shops, chicken Diane, lima bean stew, and Moroccan spiced swordfish.
Elie’s Mediterrean Grill is located at 263 Pierce St (across from City Hall).  Check them out online at http://eliesgrill.com.
