Rochester Snowglow Adds Enchantment to a Wintry Saturday
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 17, 2021)
Rochester, MI – What could have been a mundane winter Saturday turned festive with the Downtown Rochester Snowglow event.
With buildings covered in holiday lights, storefronts decorated in Christmas themes, and ice sculptures lining Main Street, the event welcomed families to enjoy a taste of the spirit that may have been dampened during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Even this weekend the risk did not fade entirely in the sparkle of the event, as signs through the downtown reminded visitors to wear face masks and social distance.  Restaurants offered carryout service, while shopkeepers welcomed guests in small groups at a time.
Though taking precautions did not spoil the fun for visitors, who even got an up close look at ice sculptures being created.
Plenty of selfies were taken in front of the ice-carved homages, like the big-bellied abominable snowmonster Bumble, Olaf the Snowman from the movie Frozen, and the wide-smiled hippopotamus from the 1950s classic song  “I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.”   Others included a shooting star, a gingerbread man, a Christmas kitten and a toy soldier.  One even had poinsettias frozen into sculpture.
