Video Break: Two and a Half Minutes of a Tiger Grooming Itself
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 16, 2021)
Royal Oak MI – The Detroit Zoo is home to three large Amur tigers, who spend their days like most cats do – playing, prowling, devouring their meals, taking leisurely cat naps, and of course grooming their majestic fur.
Brothers Nikolai (Russian for “victorious”) and Aleksei (Russian for “defender of mankind”), born in 2017, share the Devereaux Tiger Forest with a female named Kisa (Russian for “kitty”) who was born at the Detroit Zoo in 2003.
We caught one of the trio getting all primped and ready to see guests one morning in early January, it’s large tongue smoothing out it’s orange and black striped fur before having a nice luxurious stretch and curling on it’s side for a nap.
The Detroit Zoo is located at located at 8450 W 10 Mile Rd in Royal Oak.  Learn more at www.detroitzoo.org.
