Reporter Food: The Holly Cafe
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 15, 2021)
Holly, MI – The Holly Cafe has been one of those resilient local businesses that has found a way to re-open during the pandemic, taking the time to re-imagine their adorable space and provide easy, healthy options for people on the go.
Space once used for diners has be reallocated to feature locally-made products like honey, jam, pancake mixes, and more.
There is also a section for local wine, and another that is full of packaged Aratham brand plant-based, organic meals and cold-pressed juices. The choices change often, but during my visit they had Chimichurri Quinoa Bowl and Pasta Sicillano among the selections.
The Holly Cafe has also started offering take-home meals that can be ordered in advance for weekend pick up.
AND, there is the option that started it all (and the one that brought me in recently) –  quality sandwiches made on fresh baked bread.
I opted for the Cuban, made with slow roasted pork, black forest ham, garlic dill pickles, Swiss cheese, and mustard on a po’ boy baguette. It was a wonderfully tasty combination, and I can’t think of any better-tasting bread.
I also had a tasty peanut butter chocolate chunk cookie, and I got a loaf of fresh baked bread to take home for later.
The sandwich menu is kept simple, with a new featured sandwich each week. (This week is Cranberry Turkey). Regulars include the Chicken Caesar Wrap, the BLT, the Cafe Club, the darn good grilled cheese, the Hero and the Vinnie Muffuletta. They also have house-made soups that vary by the day, and other fresh baked desserts that also vary.
The Holly Cafe is located at 204 S. Saginaw Street in Downtown Holly. Check them out online at www.TheHollyCafe.com
