“The Snowy Day” Turns Heritage Park into a Storybook Trail
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Jan. 12, 2021)
Farmington Hills, MI – The new Storybook Trail at Heritage Park combines the joy of a walk in the woods, with a story that families can read along the way.
From Jan 9 – March 31, the children’s book “The Snowy Day” by Erza Jack Keats will be on display along the walkway of The Estate Trail, which is located alongside the nature center.  It tells the story of young Peter who dons a bright red snowsuit and heads out for a day of wintertime fun.
The walkway is lined with the pages, and questions have been added that can help get kids thinking and interacting. The stations were constructed by the Farmington Hill’s Parks Department, and the project is a collaboration with the Farmington Area Optimists Club and the Farmington Community Library.
In the spring, the Storybook Trail will be moved to another location within Heritage Park and will feature a different book.
Heritage Park also has other great features to explore, including a sledding hill, playground equipment, hiking trails, and the Nature Center.  And sometimes there’s enough of the pretty white stuff to build a snowman – or even a whole snow family!  Be sure to check out the Nature Center website for classes and events.
Heritage Park is located at 24915 Farmington Road, between 10 and 11 Mile Roads.  Call the Nature Center at 248-477-1135 or email asmith@fhgov.com for more information about upcoming Nature Center programs.
