Reporter Food: Sumo Sushi in Downtown Rochester
Rochester, MI -If you are in the mood for some delicious high quality sushi, Sumo Sushi in Downtown Rochester is a great place to start, currently serving up carryout out that’s made with care.
The Avocado Crab Boat is nearly a work of art.  I loved this pretty slice of avocado topped with kani crab with cream cheese, sprinkled with crispy tempura flakes, and drizzled with spicy balsamic sauce.
I’ve never had sweet potato in sushi before, so the Veggie Caterpillar was a fun choice.  It featured steamed sweet potato and asparagus topped with avocado and drops of chili sauce.
Next to this I got a shaggy-topped mess of flavors and textures that is also as fun as it’s name – the Karate Roll.  With this there was tempura salmon (cooked) rolled with avocado and topped with baked izumi-dai (talapia), balsamic sauce, spicy mayo and a kani crab garnish – three kinds of seafood rolled into decadent bites.  All of it was delicious.
Sumo Sushi and Seafood offers a variety of rolls and entrees, including hibachi and teriyaki style rice dishes, tempura, bibimbap, noodles, soups and salads.
And of course there are enough sushi options to keep a food explorer happy for many visits.
Just to name a few, there is the Cloud Nine (spicy kani crab roll with baked escolar in a bed of ginger sauce with sweet soy and spicy mayo), The Veggie Lava (steamed mushroom, sweet potato, avocado, tempura roll in a bed of raspberry sauce topped with sweet soy), and the Samurai (cooked shrimp tempura topped with baked tilapia with sweet soy and spicy mayo drizzle).
Sumo Sushi and Seafood is located at 418 S. Main Street in Downtown Rochester. Check them out online at www.SumosSushiandSeafood.com .
