Fire Extinguished on Sixth Floor of Troy Office Bldg.
(Troy Fire Dept, Jan. 6, 2021)
The Troy Fire Department was dispatched to an activated fire alarm at 850 Stevenson Hwy on Jan. 2 at 4:12pm. Initial reports were there may be phone line issues at this location. Upon arrival, firefighters identified a burning order on the first floor of a large, 6-story office building. Since it was Saturday, most of the occupants were not in the building.  No smoke or fire was visible from inside of the building. The Officer in charge upgraded the incident by requesting additional personnel and resources to address a possible high-rise building fire.
Firefighters began a methodical search and located a fire in a tenant space on the 6th floor of the building. The fire was being contained by the building’s installed fire sprinkler system. Crews had to force entry into the space to extinguish the remaining fire. Then, the sprinkler system was shut down and the floor was ventilated of smoke. Property management was notified and they responded to the scene.
Crews also began a search of the lower floors to identify areas of smoke travel, and to initiate further ventilation. This was only needed on the 5th floor.
No injuries or fatalities were reported. The building was allowed to remain open, but the area of the fire was restricted so fire investigators could determine the origin and cause. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
