New Signs for Berkley Schools – Project Nears Completion
(Berkley Schools, Dec. 26, 2020)
Berkley Schools, MI – In 2019, the Berkley School District was awarded a Competitive School Safety Grant Program from the Michigan State Police Office of School Safety, Grants and Community Services Division. The grant parameters allowed the District to create a comprehensive District-wide initiative to update the signage at all buildings.
The process started at the end of 2019, awarding the contract to Signs and More. The pandemic delayed the work from being completed earlier this year, but the project is on track to be completed before 2021.
The comprehensive plans included creating inside wayfinding signs for visitors, students, guest teachers and public safety officers. It also included updating and adding outside signage.
Each school now has signs clearly marking each classroom, main space (gym, cafeteria, etc), main entrances, safety protocols for visitors and school spirit throughout.  All outside signs were added to bring visitors to the main entrances for all schools, and frequently visited spaces at BHS like the pool, west gym and the kitchen receiving entrance.
All parking lots were marked with school hours and if a permit is required to park during the day.
Some of the older marquees have been or will be removed from our schools and replaced with this new signage. Many of our marquees are not located at the main entrance and were purchased many years ago.
Schools mostly communicate via email and social media now too, so each schools’ website is added to each sign as well as a reminder on where to get the latest news.  The signs use each school’s colors, logos and connect in look and size. No matter which school you may be in, you’ll be able to follow the same pattern for wayfinding. Once in-person learning resumes, we hope you’ll enjoy the new look in all our schools!
