Elks Grant to Help FernCare w/Mission to Serve Uninsured Patients
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 26, 2020)
Ferndale, MI  – Just in time for Christmas, Ferndale Elks Lodge #1588 delivered a gift that will help FernCare Free Clinic continue to provide free, ongoing healthcare to uninsured patients.  On Thursday they announced the awarding of two grants totaling $5,500.
The grants were from the national Elks organization, which the local group earned based on the strength of the group’s membership and community involvement.  While the Elks are well-known for their inflatable parades early in the pandemic, the group also does community service and charitable fundraising year-round.
Exhaulted Ruler Phil Carbon and Esteemed Loyal Knight and Chair or Public Relations Oscar Renautt met FernCare Director Dan Martin at the clinic for a photo with the oversized check. These funds were obtained through the ENF Spotlight and Beacon grants awarded by the Elks National Foundation.

“We’re grateful for all the support that comes from the community, and from the Elks,” Martin said.
Renautt said they chose FernCare “because especially now with COVID, and with so many people struggling financially, we need to help our neighbors and make sure people are taken care of.”
“We know the need is there,” Carbon said.
