Ferndale Detective’s Christmas CD Raises Money for Gleaners
(Mark H. Stowers, Dec. 17, 2020)
Ferndale, MI – Christmas songs are meant bring cheer to those who hear and sing them. But Ferndale Police Detective Brendan Moore has taken that cheer a step further.
Three years ago, Moore recorded a special Christmas CD – Christmas in Detroit – and has given every dollar of the proceeds to helping feed the hungry.  This year, Detective Moore is donating to Gleaners Food Bank.  Gleaners provides an average of 100,000 meals a day to struggling families. The CD can be purchased for $10 on GoFundMe.
A lifelong singer who has performed in local theatre and singing groups such as the Ferndale based 12th Night Singers, Det. Moore enjoys giving back using his singing talent, especially these days with a growing need.
“You hear it on the news, especially this year with the pandemic, the need for foodbanks with so many more people now going to foodbanks. They are in dire need,” Det. Moore. “But four years ago, the idea popped in my head one day. I wanted to do something for those less fortunate than me,” Det. Moore said. “It was just basically to give back to food banks and the first was Forgotten Harvest. I thank God for letting me sing, whether it’s good or not.”
The first year the project raised $3,500. The second year was $500 and this year is over $600. The CD is now available as a digital download. Ferndale businessman, Jack Aronson, funded the initial recording which includes The Christmas Song, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Little Drummer Boy, Let it Snow, Mary Did you Know and Winter Wonderland.
“Those are probably my favorites and I wanted songs that people knew and could sing along with,” he said.
The Ferndale native has been with the Police Department for the past 34 years. He joined them after a four- and half-year stint in the Air Force where he also worked as a Policeman.
“I was in North Dakota for two years and then served in West Germany,” he said. “After I got out of the service I put in an application as a Cadet. Then I got hired as an officer.”
His singing talents have also been in the spotlight at Comerica Park as he has performed the National Anthem for the Detroit Tigers. He’s also performed the Nation Anthem for other events around Metro Detroit. Detective by day and singer by night, Brendan Moore is helping spreading Christmas joy and giving back to comfort those who are hungry and in need.
