Reporter Food: Howe’s Bayou in Downtown Ferndale
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 15, 2020)
Ferndale, MI- Howe’s Bayou at 22848 Woodward Ave is a longstanding supporter of local journalism and a delicious favorite here in the Reporter Food column.
We’ve written about their portablella and mixed sweet peppers po’boy,  and the Baton Rouge crawfish cakes .
For this carry out feature I ordered the catfish po’ boy featuring Mississippi farm raised fried catfish on a french roll with southern slaw and housemade potato chips on the side. The fish had been lightly coated with cornmeal and mustard, giving it a delicious crispness.  The catfish can also be blackened if one prefers.
I also ordered a side of fresh sauteed vegetables which were perfectly cooked and delicious. If you struggle finding good takeout veggie options, take a peek at all that healthy goodness in the picture below.
Howe’s Bayou has a menu full of New Orleans style flavors including Blackened Voodoo Chicken, Shrimp and Grits, Jumbalaya, Red Beans and Rice, and more. For dessert the choices are chocolate brownie sundae, bread pudding with bourbon sauce, and key lime pie.
