Ferndale Middle School Virtual Art Show Online Now
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 14, 2020)
Ferndale, MI- Ferndale Middle School artists competed in an art competition, with their pieces going on display in this year’s Virtual Art Show.
A panel of judges selected the winners, who will each receive a gift card.
1st – Julia Markle – $100
2nd – Mia Page – $50
3rd – NaShaylin Dennis – $25
FMS Art Teacher Lori Tousignant created the online FMS Virtual Art Show. According to her bio, Tousignant “has been inspired by the arts for as long as she can remember and believes that anyone is capable of doing art; it is meant to be a means of self-expression!”
Principal Seth Petty’s words to the students also grace the Art Show’s homepage.  “This Art Show is so important to our community and our school,” he said.  “Your vision, drawings, and paintings are being created during one of the most historic times in the history of the world. Your work of art has the potential to express to future generations your lens of this time that we know as the year 2020.”
The winning piece was a digital collage created by 8th grader Julia Markle called “Neon Thoughts,” featuring a variety of objects and confetti-like shapes.  Second place went to Mia Page, a 6th grader whose marker drawing “Sleepover” features three friends snoozing while something eerie lurks outside.  And the third place award went to 8th grader NaShaylin Dennis who digitally created “The Angel,” a creature with large wings and horns.
