Shop Local Ideas: Willow Pointe of Ortonville
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 13, 2020)
Ortonville, MI- A nearly 200-year-old building recently found new life as Willow Pointe of Ortonville opened earlier this year under new ownership after five years of being closed.
The building is part flower shop and part boutique, with decorative items, gifts, Michigan-made snacks, local art, upcycled items, antiques, and even a section to celebrate Christmas.
For the holidays there is a plethora of poinsettias, and a room full of ornaments, stockings, table-toppers, and pieces for the mantel. Velvet-hatted figures remind guests to “embrace your inner gnome,” and a “do it yourself” snowman kit (some assembly required) could add an amusing touch to one’s decor.
There are even bars of soap made by Wildflower Soapworks that include such seasonal scents as sugar plum, sparkling snowflake, and peppermint hot chocolate.
For gifts that show year-round love there is a nice selection of furniture items and antiques. A beautiful brass barbershop cash register stands out among the tables and cabinets made of wood. And what eclectic gift shop would be complete without a section of Michigan made candles, like the “MI Home” line featuring a variety of scents in candles made of hand-poured soy? A bushel basket of McDonald’s toy Beanie Babies still in their wrappers might catch someone’s eye, along with other collectibles like commemorative glasses and Precious Moments figurines.
Michigan snacks are also a popular Willow Pointe seller, with a variety of Cherry Stop products, roasted coffee from Lake Orion based Abeantogo, and popcorn by North County Confections.
Willow Pointe of Ortonville also offers flowers for pick up or delivery.  Check out their shop at 425 S Ortonville Rd, Ortonville, MI 48462 and visit the website at https://www.willowpointeflorist.com/.
