Reporter Food: Bitter Tom’s Distillery in Lake Orion
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 8, 2020)
Lake Orion, MI – It’s been fun getting to know Northeast Oakland County a bit, and a delicious stop was made recently to a popular Downtown Lake Orion spot – Bitter Tom’s Distillery.  The restaurant remains open for carryout service, with continued focus on the quality meals regular guests enjoy.
This was my first visit and I liked it.  I had the Salmon Melt, which is made on grilled sourdough bread with grilled Norwegian Salmon, dill Havarti, Applewood smoked bacon, and tartar on the side. It was quite an amazing combination, and I was impressed with the size and quality of the fillet.
I chose tater tots on the side, as well as a small Lilley’s Favorite Salad.  The salad had house blend lettuce, savory granola, dried fruits, julienne apples, roasted butternut squash, blue cheese, and white balsamic pomegranate vinaigrette.
Bitter Tom Distillery’s website boats “quality ingredients, craft cocktails, and something for everyone.”
And indeed the menu does have a nice selection of items, including the PBC Wrap made with pineapple salsa, applewood smoked bacon, grilled chicken, avocado, and chipotle ranch in a lawash. Or there’s the Chicken Schnitzel made with herb panko, roasted fingerling potatoes, carrots, lemon and stone ground mustard demi-glace.
Other options include pizza and flatbread, tacos, fish and chips, burgers, and even a chickpea burger topped with roasted beets, cashew butter, herbed goat cheese, and arugula.
Bitter Tom’s Distillery is located at 120 S Broadway St in Downtown Lake Orion. Check out their menu online at http://bittertomsdistillery.com.
