Reporter Food: Blackthorn Pub
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 4, 2020)
Holly, MI – Blackthorn Pub in Downtown Holly is usually a bustling bar with cheerful staff and an abundance of food choices with a delightful Irish theme.  In COVID times they’re doing carryout only with a smaller than normal menu, but it is definitely worth the visit.
I picked up an order of Fish and Chips to go recently, and was surprised by the giant piece of of Guinness battered haddock. It came with tasty thin-cut Blackthorn fries, a side of tarter sauce and a lemon.  This filling portion made for a fantastic meal.
I’ve written about Blackthorn previously, devouring their Boxty special which is no longer available, and their Breakfast Burger which still is.  The breakfast burger came topped with bacon, white cheddar, crispy onions, flavored mayonnaise and a fried egg. Normally it comes with sriracha mayo, but I substituted the black pepper mayo instead.
Other options include the Krampus Burger with herb goat cheese, grilled jalapeno, onion, bacon, chili mayo and sriracha, the Reuben featuring corned beef, swiss, Russian dressing and purple cabbage kraut, the Blue Burger with bleu cheese, black pepper mayo and pickled red onion, as well as other burgers, sandwiches and meals. Order online or call it in, with curbside pickup available.
Blackthorn Pub is located at 105 S. Saginaw Street in Downtown Holly. Check them out online at http://theblackthornpubholly.com/
