State Shares List of COVID Testing Sites
(MDHHS, Nov. 18, 2020)
At this critically important time when Michigan’s COVID-19 cases are increasing rapidly, we are asking the news media to please help inform their audiences about available testing sites in your areas. To avoid bringing COVID-19 home, it is especially important to get tested if you feel sick or if you have been in close contact with someone who is sick or has symptoms.
Sorted by the MI Safe Start Michigan Economic Recovery Council regions, this new list shows all current known COVID-19 testing locations in all 83 Michigan counties. Media outlets are encouraged to help publicize the list of testing sites in and near your community so the state can more quickly and efficiently test and detect cases and help contain and control the spread.
All sites on this list are also available at Michigan.gov/CoronavirusTest where residents can search by city or zip code, and identify sites that offer free testing, tests for people without symptoms, sites that do not require a doctor’s order, or who test uninsured individuals. With a total of 478 sites, including 132 with no-cost testing, by region there are:
Detroit – 280 sites, 58 free
Kalamazoo – 40 sites, 18 free
Jackson – 7 sites, 2 free
Lansing – 21 sites, 4 free
Saginaw – 28 sites, 12 free
Grand Rapids – 50 sites, 14 free
Traverse City – 22 sites, 11 free
Upper Peninsula – 30 sites, 13 free
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services issued a new emergency order on Sunday, November 15, that enacts a three-week pause targeting indoor social gatherings and other group activities in an effort to curb rapidly rising COVID-19 infection rates. Currently, 99.8% of Michiganders live within 60 minutes of a test site, and 98.2% live within 30 min of a test site. Similarly, 99.1% of the population lives within 60 minutes of a free test site, and nearly 90% lives within 30 minutes of a free test site. If lines are long in more highly visible testing locations, it’s important for Michiganders to know there are shorter lines and wait times and open appointments at some of the less familiar COVID-19 test sites.
Residents can also call the COVID Hotline at 888-535-6136 to find a nearby location and schedule an appointment. The COVID Hotline is available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
There are many locations where you can get tested for free. For more information, visit Michigan.gov/Coronavirus.  For the list click here.
