Dec 3 – FernCare Free Clinic Annual Dinner Goes Carryout and Virtual
The fundraiser must go on!  In light of the COVID-19 crisis, the FernCare Free Clinic 12th Annual Fundraising Dinner, the organization’s largest and most important fundraiser of the year, will be held on-line on Thursday, December 3rd.
Guests can still expect the same great programming, including dinner, silent auction, entertainment and testimonials – all with a distinct 2020 twist!  This unique, fun evening will be produced with the help of Pj Jacokes of Go Comedy Improv Theater, so there are sure to be some surprises along the way!
Guests will be still be able to enjoy a great meal while logging onto their computers for the event, thanks to some of the area’s favorite restaurants.  FernCare has partnered with Howe’s Bayou, The Emory/Woodward Avenue Brewers, J’s Penalty Box, Joe Bar and Que Huong Restaurant to provide special carry-out dinners with ticket purchase.  While final menus are still being set, there is sure to be something to satisfy even the pickiest palate!
The popular silent auction, featuring many unique and sought-after items and one-of-a-kind treasures is back – with convenient online bidding and check-out!  This key component of the annual fundraiser is possible because of the generosity of many local small businesses and friends of FernCare, and by hosting the auction on-line it will offer greater exposure and opportunities to make sure you don’t miss out on that must-have item!
According to Executive Director Daniel Martin, the impact of COVID-19 means FernCare’s financial need is even greater than usual.  “Although we have had to shift our fundraising efforts, our patients’ needs are now and will only continue to grow.  As we continue to address how we meet the healthcare needs of our patients during this pandemic, the financial support of the community makes all the difference in the world.”
The evening will also include “live” music, a behind the scenes look at the clinic, and the chance to learn more about the FernCare, its mission, progress and people, including a special, one-of-a-kind tribute to recently retired and much beloved FernCare founding member and Executive Director Ann Heler. Free Clinic is a free medical clinic open to anyone between the ages of 19 through 64 who has no health insurance and no primary care provider. There is no income or residency requirement. We are primarily a family practice clinic but also for most patients, a ‘one stop’ medical clinic because we dispense generic medication, do many basic lab tests and provide FernCare is staffed by licensed and/or certified medical volunteers except for the Clinic Manager.
