Ortonville Teen Says She Was Playing With Gun When She Shot Friend in Arm

INCIDENT: Oct. 24 – 16:47 hrs. – Brandon Township – Careless Discharge of a Firearm / Detective Call Out – #20-214417
SUMMARY: Deputies and the Brandon Township Fire Department responded to a residence in the 600 block of Garland Avenue on the report of a male subject who had been shot in the arm.
The victim reported to Deputies that he was upstairs in the residence with his best friend when he heard a bang. He realized he had been shot in the right triceps.
The suspect reported that she was playing around when she got out a rifle from the closet and told her friend that she was going to shoot him. She did not realize the safety was off and pulled the trigger.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The Brandon Township Fire Department transported the victim to Hurley Hospital for treatment.
VICTIM INFORMATION: 19-year-old male, resident of Flint.
SUSPECT INFORMATION: 18-year-old female, resident of Ortonville.
