Man Accused of Shooting Woman in Ferndale Arrested

Ferndale, MI -On April 30, 2020 at approximately 2:15 a.m., Ferndale Dispatch received several 911 calls reporting numerous shots had been fired in the 300 block of West Bennett. All available scout cars were dispatched to the area and upon arrival, officers discovered a 19-year-old Ferndale woman who had been shot several times.
Initial investigation revealed the suspect approached a residential home on foot and fired several shots into the home, striking the victim multiple times as she lay in her bed. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival. The woman was transported to the hospital and survived her injuries.
Ferndale detectives spent several months investigating this incident and compiling evidence. Physical evidence linked our case to another shooting that occurred in West Bloomfield on June 17, 2020, where an arrest was made. Ferndale detectives were able to identify the same suspect was responsible in the Ferndale shooting. Eventually, the case was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office and one suspect was charged.
On October 12, 2020, Omar Alexander-Roman Coney, 47, of Detroit was arraigned by 43rd District Court Magistrate Brennan on the following charges:
Assault with Intent to Murder,1 count, felony
Felony Firearm, third or subsequent offence, 3 counts, felony
Discharging a Firearm at a Building, 1 count, felony
Felon in Possession of a Firearm, 1 count, felony
Coney was given a $500,000 cash or surety bond and is scheduled to appear next on October 19, 2020 at 1:00 pm.
