Reporter Food: Pop’s for Italian in Downtown Ferndale
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 10, 2020)
Ferndale, MI – As restaurant seating remains limited, Pop’s for Italian has excelled at their carry-out game, offering a full menu of Italian favorites for customers to enjoy.
I recently indulged in an order of Carbonara – a nest of long thin bucatini noodles nestling delicate pieces of thin-sliced guanciale with egg cream, egg yolk, pepper and Parmesan.  This was a rich and delicious meal, presented beautifully even in the carry out container.
Also delicious was the appetizer order of meatballs, topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella.  This was a lot of beef, and perfect to either share or have for leftovers.  Another great appetizer was the breaded mozzarella, which was also laid out beautifully, with the slices alternating between slices of lemon, and a cup of a melted butter sauce in the center.
They also threw in a couple of pizzelle – round thin cookies that are made with a lacy design.  A beautiful touch from a beautiful restaurant.
The menu has a nice selection of pasta dishes including fettuccine alfredo, gemelli pasta, gnocchi, and Nona’s bolognese. They’re also known for their Neapolitan pizza, and Italian classics like eggplant parmesan and chicken picatta.
Takeout is a great option, and they have well-spaced inside seating as well in a space that is decorated to be a feast for the eyes.
