Reporter Food: Mojave Cantina in Downtown Clawson
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 6, 2020)
Clawson, MI – Sometimes I like to eat my dessert first, and Mojave Cantina is a great place to do that because  they have fried ice cream.  That’s where they coat a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a golden crumb batter and deep fry it, then serve it in a flaky pastry bowl with chocolate syrup drizzled atop.  It’s very good.
Mojave has great fajitas, tacos, and burritos. But for this visit I wanted to try something new, so I picked the “Tampiquena.”  This platter had a steak, a chicken enchilada roja, a cheese quesadilla, Mojave guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, and warm tortillas.  It was like a tasty little buffet, with plenty to take home for leftovers.
My friend had the Mexican Pizza.  This is a pair of fried tortillas layered with ground beef, roja sauce, re-fried beans, Muenster and Cheddar cheeses, tomatoes, scallions, black olives, jalapenos, peppers, and cilantro.  I had a couple bites, for the sake of journalism of course, and I can definitely see ordering this next time I’m in.
Mojave Cantina has a menu full of choices, with items like the Mexican Botana, BBQ Carnitas, Quesadillas, Enchiladas, Fiesta Chicken and more. They even have brunch on Saturday and Sunday, and they have a nice selection of beer and mixed drinks.
Mojave Cantina is located at 48 W Fourteen Mile Rd in Downtown Clawson, and there is a second location at 9135 Highland Rd in White Lake.  Learn more on their website www.mojavemi.com.
