Reporter Food: Jay Jay’s Bistro in Troy
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 3, 2020)
Troy, MI – Jay Jay’s Bistro, located at 2995 E. Long Lake Road (on the corner at Dequindre), is a comfy family diner in a nondescript building, but also with a liquor license and some neon.
I couldn’t decide between sweet and savory so I got enough for leftovers by ordering the Chicken Pomodoro Omelet and the Red Velvet French Toast, which I got carry-out.
First let me tell you about the ridiculous indulgence of the Red Velvet French Toast. See, you might think it’s some fancy red bread, or a special syrup that makes this French Toast special. Nope. It’s the fact that they literally take thick slices of a Red Velvet roll cake, complete with a cream cheese filling, and grill them for a caramelized layer of perfection, and sprinkle them with powdered sugar and serve them with butter, syrup, and whipped cream.
Even with foregoing the toppings, I was lazy and happy after just a couple of bites.
The omelete was just as mouth-watering.
The Chicken Pomodoro Omelete features grilled chicken breast, basil, red onions, mozzarella, and Parmesan served with hash browns and toast. The corners of my mouth tingle when I think of how well all those flavors went together.
I did not even allow myself to look at the crepes section on the day I ordered, but I’m guessing based on the selection that they know what they’re doing in this department too. Chunky Monkey, Caramel Apple Cinnamon, Johnny’s Treat. I bet they’re great.
Jay Jay’s Bistro also serves lunch and dinner, with some interesting choices like Diablo Shrimp, Palomino Chicken Wings, Fattoush Salad, Shwarma Quesadilla, Lamb Chops, and Classic Spaghetti.
