SOAR, Serving Adults “50 and Better,” Making Farmington Hills Home
(City of Farmington Hills, Sept. 27, 2020)
Farmington Hills, MI – Adults 50 & Better, a Division of the Special Services Department at the City of Farmington Hills, has announced a new partnership with the Society of Active Retirees (SOAR), a community-based non-profit lifelong learning initiative affiliated with Wayne State University and the Road Scholar Institute Network.
SOAR membership is open to anyone interested in lifelong learning. SOAR offers a broad range of non-credit courses and provides members with opportunities for social and cultural enrichment and personal growth. Volunteer faculty is drawn from a wide range of professionals at Wayne State University and other area colleges and universities.
In Spring 2021, SOAR plans to relocate its offices to the new Farmington Hills Community Center – The Hawk, located at the site of the former Harrison High School. The new community center will provide a hub for residents and guests to enjoy drama, music, visual and performing arts, aquatics, athletics, fitness and wellness, along with many other classes and events.
“The partnership with SOAR is a perfect fit for The Hawk, the classes range from art, film, and literature to history and science,” said Senior Division Supervisor Marsha Koet. “SOAR offers all the fun of learning without the homework, grades, and exams.” SOAR’s Executive Director Dionna Lloyd said they are excited about their upcoming move and collaboration with the City of Farmington Hills.
SOAR’s Fall 2020 term runs from October 12 to November 20 and promises to be informative, engaging, and enjoyable with distinguished faculty offering over 50 presentations. Due to the current pandemic, classes will be delivered virtually via Zoom. For more information, visit www.SOARexplore.com or call 248-626-0296.
