15 Year Old Charged with Manslaughter in Shooting Death of 12 Year Old in Oak Park

Oak Park, MI – On Monday, September 14th, 2020 at approximately 1230pm, Oak Park Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 10000 block of Saratoga in Oak Park, on a report of a person that was shot.  Officers arrived on scene to find a 12 year old male with a gunshot wound.  Officers, along with EMS, performed lifesaving measures and transported the victim to Providence Hospital.  After continuing lifesaving measures by Doctors and Hospital Staff, the victim was pronounced deceased.
Preliminary investigation of the incident from Oak Park Investigators determined that there was gunplay amongst juveniles within the residence that resulted in this shooting.  Oak Park Investigators are still interviewing witnesses and occupants of the residence to determine the chain of events that took place leading up to this tragedy.
The identity of the juvenile victim is not being released at this time.
UPDATE ON CHARGES:
The case was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutors Office and a decision was made to charge the 15 year old male suspect as a juvenile with Manslaughter.  A hearing will take place today at 2pm at the Oakland County Children’s Village.  This hearing would not be able to be witnessed by the press, as it will take place virtually.
